Eric Rosenberg worked for years in the Philippines as an advocate for women who had been trafficked as sex slaves. Eric saw many initiatives that focused on interdiction and rescue, but few that provided alternate economic opportunities for women who were victims -- or at high risk of victimization -- from human trafficking.
Eric returned to the States and founded Trade Justice Mission, a non-profit organization committed to providing meaningful employment to vulnerable women in developing countries. Okoa is a line of jewelry designed by Eric's wife Susan and assembled by women in Cambodia, Thailand and Tanzania. Element is proud to partner with Eric and Susan in this vital work.
Element's owner, John McCollum, traveled with Eric to Cambodia and Thailand in 2008 to establish a number of jewelry handicraft co-ops among the orphan homes run by Asia's Hope, a non-profit founded by John in 2001.
